Getting an Estimate
- Step 1 - Draw a sketch of your kitchen; include countertop, back splash, sink and island/peninsula positions, and appliance locations. Use this sketch to record the dimensions. The sketch does not have to be perfect.
- Step 2 - Use a tape measure to measure each section of your countertop in inches. Start by measuring the length of your counter from one end of the counter to the other. Then measure the depth of the counter from the wall or back of the counter to the front for each section.
- Step 3 - Calculate odd shaped sections or corner pieces by measuring from the longest point lengthwise and the longest point depth wise. It may help to envision this odd shapes portion as a square or rectangle. Or draw a sketch of the irregular countertop, then measure all the edges in inches.
- Step 4 - Four ways for giving us your sketch: 1) Take the sketch to AAR’s showroom. 2) Call Reba at 843-903-3664 with dimensions. 3) Send the sketch via email to reba.aarsb@gmail.com) Fax to 843-903-3665
Template
- When you are ready, we will conduct our measurements and create a template. The following information needs to be confirmed during this measurement: sink type, edge detail, backsplash, faucet preference, overhang, general support and any personal preferences, seam placement.
Countertop Fabrication
- When we cut your slab we will look at all the details such as where is the best spot for seam, direction of veining, etc,. We complete all major cuts and polishing in our workshop. Some minor cuts and polishing may be done on job site. The exposed edges are hand crafted by our expert polishers.
Countertop Installation
- At installation, we ask that you clear the work area of any objects and clear a path for the installers to carry the material into your home. This will help you to protect your items from the dust. For average size kitchen countertop, installation takes around 3-4 hours. For average size vanity countertops, the installation will take around 1-2 hours. When the installation is completed, our installers will clean up the working area before they leave. The installation can require some final cutouts to be made. Please keep in mind that this is a major remodeling job and there may be some residual dust. Please be sure to check any of your items left in the cabinets. Any items under the cooktop and the sink cabinets must be removed to allow access. Some dust can result even though our installers are equipped to catch the majority of it. After finishing, the installer will do a walk through and answer any questions that you may have. Approving the installation paperwork confirms that you are satisfied with the work.
Care & Maintenance
- Because marble and granite are both natural stones and porous, it is recommended that you treat the counter with a protective sealer to best prevent stains on the surface. The sealer fills in the pores and repels spills on the surface, allowing you time to completely wipe it away. Although we usually think of stone as "hard," it is a porous material. Natural stone has varying degrees of porosity depending on the type of stone. Even a sealed surface can stain if left in contact with a staining agent for a long period of time. Therefore, all spills should be wiped up as soon as possible. Soft drinks, coffee, tea, and fruit juices contain mild acids and can etch the polished surface of a stone and stain quite rapidly. These should be cleaned off immediately with a mild soap and luke warm water. If left unsealed, spills and everyday messes can easily penetrate the surface. You should seal granite when needed and not based on some arbitrary schedule. We will provide the initial sealing. Then it is recommended for it to be resealed every 1-5 years depending on the color and porosity of the granite, the quality of the sealer, and proper sealant application.
